El vial de caldo de suero de naranja (OSB) detecta contaminación por microorganismos acidúricos en productos alimenticios de alto contenido ácido. Cuando el dióxido de carbono (CO2) es liberado por el crecimiento de levaduras y mohos, el dióxido de carbono (CO2) producido se difunde a través de una capa de membrana en un tapón de agar suave que contiene un colorante indicador. El cambio de color en el colorante es leído por el instrumento Soleris®. La capa de membrana también sirve como una barrera, eliminando la interferencia del producto con el marco de lectura.
