Dr. Paige Pratt: Genetically testing your cow herd allows you to be able to find those animals that are genetically superior in their EPD Profile.
Dr. Paige Pratt: So, the biggest difference that we’ve seen at our operation or with some of our customers, is that it allows you to be able to find those that are genetically superior, or maybe even more importantly, the ones that fall behind
Dr. Paige Pratt: So, we are able to decrease the range of variation we see in an EPD. Most animals are grouped on a bell-shaped curve. We can cut off the ends, and especially that lower end be able to find those animals that are genetically inferior.
Dr. Paige Pratt: By taking those animals out of your pure-bred operation, you’re able to shift your curve and make genetic progress much quicker.
