What does this mean?

Corn development is highly variable within some fields. National silking records are 31 points ahead of last year and 7 points ahead of the 5-year average, paving the way for successful fertilization. 22% of corn acres are in the dough stage, 11 points ahead of last year and 13 points above the 5-year average.
