DSX | Declogging a Wash Head Array

This video will provide step-by-step instructions on how to declog the washer/manifold array of a Dynex DSX instrument.

Turn the instrument off in order to disengage the motor. This will allow the wash manifold to be pushed down without force and make it able to be removed.

Grab the wash array with your hand and lift gently but with force so that the wash manifold is removed from the retaining cradle.

Remove both the wash and waste tubing so the wash manifold is able to be removed totally from the instrument. You may have to use some force to remove the tubes.

Locate the aspirate and the dispense nozzles on the bottom side of the array and thread the cleaning wire into both the aspirate and dispense pins to free any clog.

Flush the wash manifold with DI water by inserting the tip of the DI bottle into the locations where the tubing was attached and flushing DI water through the wash array and out the aspirate and dispense pins.

If you find that the wash manifold is still clogged, remove the side screws and allow the wash tray to soak in warm water for 30 minutes to an hour.

After the wash manifold is soaked, repeat the cleaning wire step and flush again with DI water.

If it is still clogged, repeat the warm DI water soak overnight.

If you find that the manifold is still clogged, repeat the soaking step, this time using 70% isopropyl alcohol for 30 minutes to an hour.

After the clog has been removed, replace the wash head assembly. You may need to cut a small piece of the tube in order to have a clean-cut edge to reapply the tubing.

Position the wash head assembly back in the retaining cradle and push it down into location and reattach the tubing.
