LINCOLN, Neb., Aug. 1, 2014 — GeneSeek, a world leader in agri-genomics, and Edmonton-based Delta Genomics have expanded their partnership to provide Canadian commercial cattle producers with easier access to advanced genomic tests already available in the United States.

The tests now available through Delta Genomics provide commercial cattle producers the most comprehensive genetic profile available for beef. The information helps beef producers make more informed and confident decisions about heifer selection, breeding, and managing cattle earlier than ever before.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to further strengthen our partnership with Delta Genomics in Edmonton. GeneSeek has worked very hard with beef cattle producers in the U.S. to develop genomic tests that will give them the results they need to make the best decisions to manage their herds,” said GeneSeek’s Dr. Elisa Marques, who completed her doctorate degree in animal genetics at the University of Alberta. “We want our Canadian customers to have the same level of access to the innovative products, and derive the same benefits as customers in the U.S. Partnering with Delta in the heart of Canada’s cattle country will help further facilitate that.”

“Commercial cattle producers face the same challenging management decisions wherever their ranches may be,” said Delta Genomics’ Dr. Colin Coros. “We are pleased to be able to offer our Canadian customers the best tools available to make the most informed decisions possible.”

GeneSeek’s technology for commercial cattle producers employs high-resolution DNA genotyping for analysis of traits of economic relevance. These traits include calving ease, fertility, stayability, average daily gain, carcass marbling, carcass tenderness, heifer pregnancy, docility, and feed efficiency, or residual feed intake. Delta Genomics also offers GeneSeek’s advanced genomics for seedstock cattle producers, as well as genomics for swine. Since 2012, the Canadian Simmental Association has provided the GeneSeek Genomic Profiler to Canadian Simmental producers.
