Oral Fluid Testing is Growing

July 31, 2022

Oral fluid is gaining momentum and acceptance. In addition to being implemented for federal workplace drug testing, now Department of Transportation (DOT) is considering adopting oral fluid as an approved drug testing matrix.

This is positive movement for oral fluid and signals wider adoption and acceptance for drug testing applications.

Oral fluid is a mixture of saliva and fluid produced mainly by the parotid gland, submandibular gland, and the sublingual gland. Testing involves a simple technique of collecting saliva by a collector pad for one to two minutes. Oral fluid is being considered as an additional testing method to add flexibility to DOT drug testing.
