Quality Tests for Quality Grains
The Challenges — The Solutions — The Support
From Your Trusted Food Quality Testing Partner
Many factors in the world today are having a severe and disruptive impact on the supply of our global food chain, in particular the production of wheat, corn, and other grains. With supply shortages caused by a volatile political environment, climate change variances affecting toxin prevalence, and increased costs to both production overheads and end market value, we understand the challenges faced. Now, more than ever, it is important to have confidence in the safety and quality of your produce. Mycotoxin contamination is a major contributor in determining the quality of grains and it is also important that these processed grains and foods are strictly regulated for dietary fiber labelling. So by partnering with Neogen, we can help support you with our innovative range of proven mycotoxin and dietary fiber analysis solutions.
Neogen has over 30 years experience in the detection and management of mycotoxins and has been a global leader in dietary fiber analysis allowing for the measurement of fiber as per official AOAC validation methods, thereby offering comprehensive solutions that can support growers and manufacturers at every step of the way. Our full range of solutions combine quality, performance, accuracy, support, reliability and reactivity to help you test at all stages; from harvest, through storage to processing and finished products.
Confidence in the Safety and Quality of Your Grains
Before and During Harvest
The effects of climate change are having a significant impact on grain production around the world. Increasing temperatures can see previously rich farm areas hit with droughts, creating poor planting conditions and reduced crop yields. Conversely, wetter weather seen in some regions can increase toxin prevalence when coupled with warm weather, or delay harvest conditions when coupled with cooler weather. Testing at harvest can provide you with confidence in the quality of your grains and minimize potential wastage.
Post Harvest and Through Processing
Testing following transportation of grains, on arrival at your facility and through processing is important to determine whether the safety or quality of your grains has been impacted during these stages. Stored grains can experience variances in warm and cooled temperatures, resulting in condensation and an ideal environment for mycotoxin and mold growth.
Warm conditions and daily heating from the sun can cause grains to expand and release moisture.
At night, cooler conditions can cause grains to shrink and condensation may form.
Moisture on grains can soften their hull and create an ideal environment for mold to grow.
Testing for mycotoxins on arrival at your facility can provide you with confidence in the safety and quality of your grains prior to entering your manufacturing site and processing chain. It allows you to directly verify the arrival condition of the grains for any potential mycotoxin contamination and that they have not been adversely affected through the earlier processing and supply chain. Additionally, by accurately measuring the dietary fiber content, you can precisely label your food product, thereby complying with regulatory requirements.
Mycotoxin Testing Solutions
Our solutions are available for the detection of aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol (DON, vomitoxin), fumonisin, ochratoxin, T-2/HT-2 toxin, and zearalenone, and are available in a variety of formats that provide rapid, accurate results.
