ISO 24914:2026 – A New International Standard for LAMP Technology in Food Safety Testing

In January 2026, ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 34/SC 9 introduced the new international standard – ISO 24914:2026 Microbiology of the food chain – Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for the detection of microorganisms and associated genetic markers – General requirements and definitions. This is the first international standard defining the application and general requirements for LAMP methods used to detect microorganisms in the food chain.
The standard applies to:
- products intended for human consumption
- products for feeding animals
- environmental samples in the area of food and feed production and handling
- samples from the primary production stage for the above items

About the Speakers
Frédéric Martinez - Director of Scientific and Strategic Affairs, Neogen
As Director of Scientific and Strategic Affairs at Neogen, Frédéric provides leadership to global teams to engage in strategic local regulatory activities to drive recognition and acceptance of methods. Frédéric partners with government and non-government organizations in development of standards and methods. He is also involved in developing partnerships with the scientific community and the food industry in order to increase food microbiology knowledge.
Frédéric is a member of the MicroVal Technical Committee and General Committee, the AFNOR Technical Committee and AFNOR Commission and a member of AOAC. He is active in ISO IC34/SC9 as an expert participating in several Working Groups:
- WG03: Method validation
- WG08: “ISO 6887 series” sample preparations
- WG28: Enumeration of micro-organisms at 30°C (project leader)
- WG32: Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria spp.
- AHG6: Commercial sterility testing
- AHG7: QC in colony count
He is part of the IDF (International Dairy Federation) in the Standing Committee on Methods for Dairy Microbiology and a member of IFU (International Fruit and Vegetable Juice Association) in the microbiology working group.
Frédéric holds a Master's Degree in Food Science and Marketing specialization at Unilasalle Polytechnic Institute.
Matt Bricknell- Professional Services Specialist, Neogen
Matt is the North Europe Professional Service Specialist for Neogen’s Food Safety business. Matt provides technical support across the Food Safety product range with a specialty in pathogen testing.
With over 26 years in the field of food safety and microbiology, Matt’s early career was with a global food manufacturer in their microbiology and food chemistry labs, before moving into a QA role where he gained experience of auditing, control and monitoring of food manufacturing following the HACCP process. During this time, Matt became a professional trainer with a focus on Basic Food Hygiene and safe food manufacturing practices. Later, Matt became laboratory manager of the microbiology and food chemistry labs where he was responsible for maintaining the accredited quality system.
In 2007, Matt joined 3M Food Safety as a technical specialist for the UK and Ireland, with his role expanding to cover the North Europe region in the following years. Following his many years support to their food science courses, Matt was awarded an Honorary Assistant Professor position at Nottingham University in 2017. Matt joined Neogen through the integration of 3M’s Food Safety business in September 2022.
