Veratox® for Almond Allergen is used for the quantitative analysis of almond residue in food products such as cookies, crackers, chocolate bars, ice cream, beverages and cereals.
Specifications
Analyte Almond, Tree Nuts
Brand Veratox®
Cross Reactivity Cross reacts with apple seed and common Prunus genus foods (ie. apricots, cherries, nectarines, peaches and plums). Cross reactivity has been identified with the seed (stone); however the flesh (seedless fruit) does not cross react.

Veratox for Almond Allergen is a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (S-ELISA). Almond residues are extracted from samples with a buffered salt solution (PBS) by shaking in a heated water bath, followed by centrifugation or filtration. Extracted almond residue is sampled and added to antibody-coated wells (capture antibody) where it binds to the antibody during an incubation. Any unbound almond residue is washed away and a second antibody (detector antibody), which is enzyme labelled, is added. The detector antibody binds to the already bound almond residue. After a second wash, the substrate is added. Colour develops as a result of the presence of bound detector antibody. Red Stop reagent is added and the colour of the resulting solution is observed. The test is read in a microwell reader to yield optical densities. The optical densities of the controls form a standard curve, and the sample optical densities are plotted against the curve to calculate the exact concentration of almond residue.
