Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) expressing F4 fimbriae is a main pathogen associated with post-weaning diarrhea in piglets. Piglets can be tested for susceptibility or resistance towards ETEC O149:F4ac by a DNA marker based test. Susceptible pigs showed higher diarrhea incidence and higher numbers of fecal ETEC shedding when compared to genetically resistant pigs.
