Technical Contributions
Identifies, plans, recommends, and completes major technical programs leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing and new technologies that have significant impact on the organization. Consistently applies innovative and advanced technical skills to provide support and services to expand opportunities, reduce risks, and generate revenue for one or more of the following: new product development, product modification, application development, product localization/converting, technology development, process development, life cycle management, application engineering, application support, manufacturing support, product support, general cost reduction, quality improvement efforts, etc. as required.
Maintains a flow of major technical contributions in areas of technical expertise. Recommends and develops solutions for technical and product problems. Advances and utilizes knowledge of technical, product, and market information. Creates a commercial advantage through activities in one or more of the following areas: a) broadening a technical base, foundation/architecture; b) developing a fundamental understanding of the technical base, foundation/architecture; c) applying new technology in innovative product/process concepts and solutions, demonstrating feasibility; (d) taking the initiative to develop/introduce new technologies, architectures, or products, (e) providing significant support on products to clients and/or customers to expand opportunities, reduce risks, and/or generate revenue, and (f) providing technical expertise in areas critical for research and/or business success. Contributions may include successful project completion and/or commercialization, achievement of key technical milestones, factory cost reduction and/or increased customer satisfaction via technical troubleshooting or support. Applies 15% rule as appropriate to innovate.
Interactions. Establishes extensive intra-divisional interactions and initiates inter-divisional interactions to develop a network of support to facilitate completion of programs. May participate on teams. May guide interactions with customers to better understand customer relations, customer's processes, and applications. Is recognized as a technical consultant or mentor within their organization. May provide technical consultation during projects with external partners.
Leadership. Assumes leadership role for technical programs of importance within the organization. Assists in the development of other technical employees. Demonstrated ability to assist other employees by training, guiding, setting an example, and offering counsel. May be responsible for leading teams and/or others. May conduct training to customers and/or business teams.
Intellectual Property. May review and/or generate intellectual property positions at the business level, including proprietary advances, ROI's, patents, trade secrets, etc. Documents experimental data/observations in technical notebooks or electronic files.
Communication. Communicates results of assigned and self-initiated technical tasks to the respective business group and/or appropriate technical community. Communicates relevant findings to external parties/customers as appropriate. Prepares reports, presentations, and other written documents. May establish and leverage a multi-country technical network.
Corporate Initiatives. Leads application of key corporate initiatives and appropriate tools.
Strategic Planning. May participate in technical strategic planning at the business level.
Qualifications
This classification is for experienced accredited Ph.D. graduates in the appropriate/applicable scientific/engineering or related field, or individuals with degrees in those sciences plus appropriate additional course work and experience.
Possesses thorough understanding of concepts and professional practices to solve complex and diverse problems. Applies methodology of process improvement when applicable. Utilizes strong technical and non-technical communication skills and continuously improves upon these skills through regular participation in appropriate training activities. Possesses knowledge of and regularly utilizes available information resources, systems, software tools, current patents and literature. Collaborates with colleagues to innovate, influence, and/or negotiate when required. Maintains a broad knowledge of the assigned organization's products, customers/clients, and customer/client needs. Possesses skills to begin mentoring others. May direct and review the work of assigned personnel.
Is known and recognized within the organization for expertise/contributions in a specific technical field(s). Begins to generate a track record of technical successes with impact to the business or area of research.
Maintains awareness of current and developing safety, health and environmental policies and procedures; applies same to all assignments. Instructs co-workers on appropriate safety practices as necessary.
Local language and working knowledge of English is generally required.
