Technical Service Senior Manager - China

Technical Contributions. Consistently identifies, initiates, plans, recommends, completes, and leads major technical programs leading to innovating applications and extensions of existing, emerging, and new technologies that have significant impact on the organization.

Applies innovative and expert technical skills to provide leadership, support, and services to one or more of the following: new product development, product modification, application development, product localization/converting, technology development, process development, life cycle management, application engineering, application support, manufacturing support, product support, cost reduction, quality improvement efforts, etc. with a significant business impact.

Maintains a flow of major technical contributions such as material/product/process innovations and understanding. Identifies, recommends, and develops solutions for technical and product problems. Advances and utilizes knowledge of technical, product, and market information. Consistently takes the lead in advancing and utilizing knowledge of technical, product, and market information. Creates the technical basis for commercial positions through activities in one or more of the following areas: a) generating and broadening a technical base or foundation/architecture; b) expanding the fundamental understanding of the technical base or foundation/architecture; c) applying new technology in innovative product/process concepts and demonstrating feasibility; d) pioneering new technologies, architectures, and/or product areas to create new products or open new business areas; (e) providing innovative solutions to articulated customer problems and opportunities, and (f) providing significant support on products to clients and/or customers to expand opportunities, reduce risks, and generate revenue; and (g) providing technical expertise in areas critical for research and/or business success. Contributions may include successful project completion and/or commercialization, achievement of key technical milestones, cost reduction and/or increased customer satisfaction via technical troubleshooting or support. Applies 15% rule as appropriate to innovate.

Leadership. Has leadership role for technical programs of major importance to the organization. Assists in the development of other technical employees. Has a history of assisting other employees by training, guiding, setting an example, and offering counsel. May be responsible for leading teams and/or others. May conduct training to customers and/or business teams.

Interactions. Establishes extensive intra-divisional interactions and expands inter-divisional interactions to develop/enhance a network of support to facilitate completion of programs. May participate on teams. May stimulate or develop major innovations from a customer’s viewpoint. May guide interactions with customers to better understand customer relations, customer's processes, and applications. Is recognized and utilized as an internal consultant at the division/Business Group level. Seeks opportunities to mentor or assist others. May interact with experts outside of 3M, occasionally serving in a speaking or leadership role. Serves as a resource for other groups. May act as the key liaison between technical and marketing groups with the customer or external partners.

Intellectual Property. May review and/or generate intellectual property positions at the divisional level, including proprietary advances, ROI's, patents, trade secrets, etc. Documents experimental data/observations in technical notebooks or electronic files. May investigate competitive intellectual property to strengthen 3M's IP position for one or more technologies within the division.

Communication Communicates results of assigned and self-initiated technical tasks to the respective business group and/or appropriate technical community. Communicates relevant findings to external parties/customers as appropriate. Prepares reports, presentations, and other written documents. May establish and leverage a multi-country technical network.

Strategic Planning. Participates in technical strategic planning at the business/division level.

Corporate Initiatives. Leads application of key corporate initiatives and appropriate tools.


Utilizes thorough understanding of concepts and professional practices including internal and/or external precedent to solve complex and diverse problems. Applies methodology of process improvement when applicable. Utilizes strong technical and non-technical communication skills. Possesses knowledge of and regularly utilizes available information resources and systems, software tools, current patents and literature. Demonstrates ability to collaborate with colleagues to innovate, influence, and/or negotiate. Maintains a broad knowledge of product lines across multiple divisions, customers and customer needs. Utilizes skills to mentor others. May direct and review the work of assigned personnel.

Works with a high level of expertise in key products and/or market segments. Identifies both articulated and unarticulated problems at customer and/or client sites. Proposes solutions or directs problems to the appropriate groups. Clearly communicates the value of new/unique/differentiating features of Neogen's products and services to customers and/or clients. Is known and recognized within the Neogen's technical community as an expert in a specific field. Demonstrates consistent track record of advances and/or successes with impact to the business or area of research.
Maintains awareness of current and developing safety, health and environmental policies and procedures; applies same to all assignments. Instructs co-workers on appropriate safety practices as necessary.

Local language and working knowledge of English is generally required.
