Laboratory Analyst

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Analyst to join the Genomics department of our award-winning business at Auchincruive near Ayr.

Neogen Europe has been developing and supplying diagnostic kits and expert services to determine the quality and safety of food and agricultural products since 1998. With wide ranging expertise, Neogen offers on-site diagnostic kits and laboratory testing services to ensure food safety throughout the entire supply chain, from farm to fork.


The main features of the role are:

  • Reporting to the relevant Laboratory Manager or Team Leader, be responsible for conducting in-house laboratory services. This includes recording of sample details on receipt; determining that the sample materials and associated information is adequate for the analysis to be conducted; where appropriate, arrange for samples to be sent to other laboratories for analysis.
  • Conduct such analysis as required according to ISO17025 standard where such tests are accredited and according to SOPs and WIs at all times. Also, ensure that all other analysts are adhering to documented procedures.
  • Ensure that laboratory paperwork is completed and up to date.
  • Samples should be analysed and reports issued according the schedules agreed with Contract Services Manager to ensure that customer and internal deadlines are met.\
  • Author and maintain standard operating procedures as and when required, raise change requests when required to ensure that all documents are accurate reflections of actual practice.\
  • Maintain accurate records of all Contract Services activities as directed by the Contract Services Manager.
  • Co-ordinate the storage and disposal of samples and extracts to ensure they are retained for the required timescales as detailed in quality documentation.
  • To maintain an awareness and compliance with Neogen Europe’s Health and Safety policy and any other relevant legal requirements.
  • Any other duties as may be required from time to time.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant HNC or equivalent/above desirable
  • Previous experience desirable
  • Good administrative skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines while producing work of a high standard and accuracy
  • Ability to multi task
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
