Key Account Leader - Food Safety


  • Consults with leadership team to set and execute short-term strategic direction and operating plans for assigned area of responsibility and defines guidelines/methods. Decisions are typically limited by business or functional area objectives/guidelines. Initiates and approves projects to continuously improve efficiency and competitiveness.
  • May have direct responsibility or work with functional leader for functional strategic planning, including establishing and managing budgets for one or more departments in the immediate organization.
  • Management responsibility usually encompasses one Sales team within strategic/key account management and/or field sales contract sales, field sales, inside sales, sales support, sales reporting, business intelligence, sales analytics, variable incentive compensation, agent commissions, customer master data, indirect data processing (point of sale and charge backs), customer relationship management, territory planning/mapping/ forecasting, sales prospecting, sales rep issue resolution, sales inquiries, sample orders, order expedites, CRM entries, etc. Determines priorities, timetables and assigns resources/tasks. Accountable for the activities and results of their functional area.
  • Typically, provides direct supervision to professional and support levels which include objective setting, performance management, development, motivating and training and coaching, as well as leading for change.
  • Problem solving requires hypothetical thinking to determine best solutions for complex problems. Utilizes resources across work areas and departments to create solutions. Most complex problem solving may require in-depth interpretation and analysis for significantly different situations.
  • Resolves issues and conflicts related to direct reports.
  • Has a moderate impact typically on a small to medium, established business.
  • Decisions impact one area of the organization and occasionally may impact multiple areas.
  • Has responsibility for establishing and enforcing multiple concepts relative to the function. Working tasks might include:
    • Executes and coaches to sales plans for priority accounts in CRM.
    • Explains sales plans to functional leaders to ensure their understanding and buy-in; provides a course of action to fill gaps
    • Influences internal and external decision makers, typically at managerial or functional leaders levels, for program and/or territory design
    • Builds strong business partner and customer relationships and negotiates larger contracts and/or service level agreements
    • Ensures local issues are incorporated into sales plans, taking local goals and investments into consideration
    • Provides input to the development of the annual sales forecast
    • Coaches sales representatives to improve and/or develop new skills and competencies according to the individual development plan
    • Provides input for optimal use of current channels and identifies partners/alliances/channels for continuous growth
    • Works with business team to develop sales objectives and operations plans to implement the strategies. Monitors sales activities (e.g. sales calls) and provides feedback to sales representatives.
    • Shares best practices with other Sales Managers across locations/countries
    • Evaluates and recommends new activities and approaches to improve sales rep performance results
    • Responsible for collaboration and cross-functional coordination of functional impacts or decisions relative to area of responsibility
    • Drives and/or designs customer facing data management processes and sales analytics to support strategic and operational business objectives. Responsible for understanding POS data relative to business strategies; performs data analysis and supports execution of new programs based on POS data. Provides input and leadership into organizational design and refinements of owned processes for greatest efficiency and effectiveness. Drives Global Sales Incentive Compensation Framework structure with sales leaders in respective business area
  • Incumbent typically communicates with managers, functional leaders, area/business leaders, department heads, and direct reports. May interact with external customers.
  • Shares vision and demonstrates company values.
  • Negotiates and counsels on an expert level, justifies controversial positions and demonstrates intermediate persuasion skills. Interaction involves convincing others to cooperate, grant approval, or take action of a certain kind.
  • Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with Neogen’s values and ethical standards.


  • Bachelor level university degree is generally required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years food safety industry working experience, above 3 years team management experience
  • Expert/master knowledge and experience with most current theories and practices of one or more related disciplines within the sales function.
  • In-depth knowledge of Neogen structure, organization, and business.
  • Has cross-functional knowledge of businesses.
  • Possesses solid market know-how (competitors, trends, etc.).
  • Utilizes this business knowledge to educate others.
  • Knowledge of computer programs and corporate systems relevant to the assigned area of responsibility is normally required.
  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English.

Activities Related to the Quality Management System:

  • Responsible for keeping QMS documents under the Sales/Key Account team up to date (Procedures, work instructions, tables and quality records);
  • Continuously contribute and support the implementation of preventive measure for the continuous improvement of processes.

Activities Related to Occupational Health and Safety (HSE):

  • Use the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and EPC (Collective Protective Equipment) applicable to your role and request replacement from HR in case of damage or loss.
