Genomics Operations Manager - Edmonton, Canada

Job Description Summary

Responsible for directing all laboratory and Data personnel along with, IT, and Customer Service activities. Coordinates and oversees key operational projects oriented for process improvement. Works closely and coordinates with personnel/groups impacted or contributing to the various changes.  Strives to implement improvements which will alleviate extraneous working situations and improve cost management.

Essential Skills, Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Responsible for hiring, training, and directing all service laboratory managers and their direct reports at NEOGEN Canada Edmonton laboratory, to achieve company goals within a prescribed timeframe.
  • Work with the General Manager on oversight, planning and execution of new projects for development
  • Works with R&D on “new product” launch and integration with routine operations
  • Assemble necessary documentation and training aides for new process developments
  • Works with Quality manager in the USA and supports ISO procedures including development, documentation and execution
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to efficiently identify new product opportunities and seamlessly integrate into the product offering on a global basis
  • Work with corporate purchasing, procure all raw materials.
  • Establish measurable performance standards for laboratory thru-put, monitor and report monthly
  • Works within budgeted expenses and maintains a constant focus on cost reduction
  • Arrange timing and content of monthly Operations meetings and regular department meetings.
  • Other related duties as may be agreed with senior management.
  • Travel as necessary to promote and advance the business.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in any of the Life Sciences with 7+ years work experience for an agribusiness company; with managing projects, laboratory personnel and general operations of laboratory and related facilities.  Experience/exposure to animal agriculture is a strong advantage.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
