Genomics Analyst, Maternity Cover - Ayr, Scotland

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Analyst to join the Genomics department of our award-winning business at Auchincruive near Ayr. This position is to cover maternity leave and will be for a fixed period of up to 12 months.

The main features of the role are:

  • Reporting to the relevant Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Supervisor, be responsible for conducting in-house laboratory services. Ensure at all times that data received and entered into our systems is 100% accurate. This includes recording of sample details on receipt; determining that the sample materials and associated information is adequate for the analysis to be conducted; contacting customer liaisons to request further material and/or information; where appropriate, arrange for samples to be sent to other laboratories for analysis, perform analysis on customer samples and following standard operating procedures at all times. Also, ensure that all other analysts are adhering to documented procedures.
  • Participate in general upkeep of the laboratory, including stock management, waste management, housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure that laboratory paperwork is completed and up to date. Work to the standard of “right first time” with regard to analysis and reporting documentation.
  • Author and maintain standard operating procedures as and when required, raise change requests when required to ensure that all documents are accurate reflections of actual practice.
  • Maintain accurate records of all Genomics Services activities as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Co-ordinate the storage and disposal of samples and extracts to ensure they are retained for the required timescales as detailed in quality documentation.
  • Maintain an awareness and compliance with Neogen Europe’s Health and Safety policy and any other relevant legal requirements.
  • Any other duties as may be required from time to time.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant HNC or equivalent/above desirable
  • Previous experience desirable
  • Good administrative skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines while producing work of a high standard and accuracy
  • Ability to multi task
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
